The Meaning of Stuff – Starting from Scratch

    11 April 2023 /

Photo by Lina Trochez on Unsplash During the Easter holiday I decided to take on some decluttering which I’d been putting off for ages. Life got in the way and by the time I got some much-needed time off work, I noticed that things had built up around me. Impulse purchases I made to deal with the grief of losing my dad, and stuff that even as a minimalist I hadn’t been able to let go of for years. To give you an update on my life situation, my mum has moved out and currently, our home is undergoing huge renovations including plastering, ceiling skimming, installing new electrical points, ripping…

A Better Way to Make Resolutions – 2022

    31 December 2022 /

Photo by Waranont (Joe) on Unsplash With just hours to go until the New Year, I want to thank all of you who read and have subscribed to my content. It means the world to me, and even more so if it helps you to make simple changes in your life or to start winning the battle against clutter.  I know that a lot of minimalists out there like to write about New Years Resolutions, but years ago I came to the conclusion that every day is the potential for a new start. Why wait until Big Ben chimes or the fireworks bang? Plus, I think that if you fail…

What Do You Want from Life?

    30 June 2022 /

Photo by Sasha Freemind on Unsplash On a number of occasions my husband has asked me what I want out of life. We sometimes have these kinds of conversations when the kids have gone to bed or we’re out on a date night.  My answer is always the same: I want peace.  But what does that actually mean? Peace can mean so many things to different people. No arguments, a calm relationship, a calm environment, world peace, inner peace, good health.  For me, peace means freedom from torment and trauma, good mental health, a calm environment, and a loving circle of friends and family.  Years ago, if you’d asked me the same question…

    Life Decisions

    27 February 2022 /

Photo by Burst on Unsplash Sundays are my lay-in day. My husband gets up with the kids and usually, I sleep in with a cheeky cup of tea. But this morning, I’ve been unable to sleep, so I got up and opened my blinds, letting in the crisp early-morning sun, then I began typing these thoughts. There are a couple of reasons I couldn’t get back to sleep. Firstly, the terrible invasion of Ukraine, and worrying about my good friend in Russia. My heart and my thoughts are with everyone affected by these horrific events, and I want nothing more than for Ukraine to experience peace again sooner rather than later. Secondly, the…

Christmas Burnout: Is It Time For a Change?

    27 December 2021 /

Feeling tired and burnt out after Christmas? If so, you’re not alone! Festive fizzle-out is all too real, and despite being minimalist, I often suffer from it myself.  Perhaps it’s exhaustion from the shopping and the worrying about what to get the people in your life. Maybe it’s the fear of logging into your bank account after the festive splurge? Are you exhausted from spending time with people you don’t get along with? Or did you do too much? Like me, perhaps you fell into the trap of perfectionism and tried to create the perfect Christmas only for it to fall short of everything you pictured. And then there’s the…
